If you’re like me, you probably tend to think about idols in the terms
of external objects. Idols are something outside of us, they’re
something foreign, something you take pictures of in far-off temples,
something you wonder about. But idols are not just stone statues.
Idols are the thoughts, desires, longings, and expectations that we
worship in the place of the true God. In fact, Henry Blackaby says "An
idol is anything you turn to for help when God told you to turn to him
for help.” Part 1 of this 2 part series looks at the modern day idols
we run to, and what God thinks about that.
When Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was, he said there are two – love God and love your neighbor as yourself. Sounds pretty simple. But have you ever wondered who your neighbor actually is? Does it only mean the person living next to you, or is it possible that Jesus meant something more? Jumping off of The Good Samaritan in Luke 10, Pastor Laurence East extends a challenge to be actively involved in the kingdom work God wants to do in and through us to those He has placed us around.
Have you ever asked the question, “What is God calling me to?” I believe He’s looking for a generation of risk takers who are willing to take bold steps of faith. Men and women like Peter who are not content to just sit in the boat but want to be where Jesus is. What is keeping you from risk taking and water walking? What is keeping you in the boat? It’s a question worth answering because you’ll never know what you’re missing out on until you swing that leg over the side of the boat and put your faith into action!
In part 3 of "Imago Dei - In The Image of God", we turn our attention
to the Holy Spirit, perhaps the most ‘controversial’ member of the
Trinity (Father, Son & Spirit). Who is he and what does he do?
What happens if I don’t feel Him? Do I need ‘more’ of the Holy Spirit
or does he need ‘more’ of me? If you're wondering what you're missing,
this message will direct you to the one God has sent to walk alongside
you. You are not alone.
Tonight we turn our attention to Jesus, the most fascinating and talked
about person in history. Did he really exist? Who did he claim to
be? What did he accomplish? What difference does it make? Pastor
Mike's message will force you to answer the most important question
ever: “Who is Jesus Christ to you?
The Bible says in Genesis 1:26-27 that God created us in His image, in His likeness.
What does it mean to be made in the image of God? And who is this God who has made us in his image?
Pastor Mike begins unpacking this question in part 1 of a 3 part series, with the firm belief that you will never know who you are until you know who’s you are.
Some of you feel that your life is a mistake.
But God doesn’t see it that way.
He fashioned you on purpose and for a purpose.
He has made you Imago Dei – In the Image of God."
How can you be sure that the choices you're making in life are lining up with God's will for your life? Is there a way to know? Pastor Mike discusses practical ways that we can listen closely to God's voice and move forward in confidence, not confusion.
Is God playing a cosmic game of hide and seek when it comes to knowing His will? Sometimes it seems that way. But Pastor Mike steps back to look at the big picture, five ways God is working to reveal His plan for our lives. The good news if you desire to know and respond to God's will, He wants you to know it!
One of the things that stands in the way of authentic discipleship is disappointment with God, or the church. Guest speaker Ed Weiss shares his own experiences, and those from scripture, of people who have worked through this issue, and have discovered God on the other side.
Would you consider yourself a disciple of Jesus? What does that actually mean? Pastor Mike begins a three part series entitled “Living Common-Law with Jesus” by asking the question “What is holding you back from following hard after Him?” So often we have a mindset that we’ll follow Jesus “as long as” He meets our needs, “so long as” He doesn’t ask too much from us, “until” it stops feeling good. The question is whether He accepts us on our terms or his. Using the story of the Rich Young Ruler from Mark 10, Mike raises some important questions about what authentic discipleship really looks like.
