Encounter was an amazing time of building new friendships and deepening current ones. And God showed up! Stay tuned here for photos from Encounter, and a facebook page has been established here where you can share photos, videos & more. We'd love to get your feedback as well in this blog below. We're also planning to put together a DVD with the messages, including Heather Clark's testimony. And the notes from the various workshops will be posted in the coming days. Thanks to all who came out, and plan now to be a part of Encounter 2009!

It's hard to believe that Encounter is finally upon us, this weekend, February 15-17! We have 110 people registered, and are excited to see what God is going to do in our midst as we spend 48 hours together. For all those who are coming, there is an important document you will need to want to download Encounter 2008 - Participant Guide: It explains what to bring, the schedule, etc. Basically, meet at WP Hwy 33 on Friday February 15, 5:30pm and be prepared for a memorable weekend of relationship building and drawing close to Christ.

What does generous giving look like? What is my heart toward giving? Am I someone who gives generously to the work of the Lord? Those were some of the questions that came to mind when I was reading my Bible recently. |

Do you ever wonder if God uses kids to send messages to us? I don't doubt it! The other day, Michelle and I were driving with Mira and Weston, and we just started talking about God, and Michelle said to Mira "What does God have to say to Daddy?" Mira paused and thought for a while, then she said something I had never heard her say before.

Does God still speak to people today? Does He really have a master plan for our lives? If so, can it really be discovered?
I wish that I could I could say that, after more than 30 years of walking with the Lord, I have discovered a foolproof method for knowing the will of God in all circumstances. There have been times when God has led me in a way that was so clear and obvious. There have been other times when it was just a journey of faith. But I can tell you this much: as Christians, we are not victims of chance. I do believe God has a plan for our lives. I do believe God has a will that He wants to reveal to us. I do believe He wants to speak to us and does speak to us.

January is in the books and February is upon us, the days are getting longer, on average 3 minutes a day. Spring is a little ways off yet but there’s a whole lot of Alive Ministries going on right now. February is full of awesome events including our current series “Discerning the will of God” a 3 part look at the ways God speaks to us, and how he may speak his will to each of us personally as followers of Christ. Also, Encounter, our weekend retreat is happening and we will close out the month with a worship evening with Corey Doak and band. Find out more in here!

Once there was a man who dared God to speak...
"Burn the bush like You did for Moses, God, And I will follow.
Collapse the walls like You did for Joshua, God, And I will fight.
Still the waves like You did on Galilee, God, And I will listen."
And so the man sat by a bush, near a wall,
close to the sea and waited for God to speak.
And God heard the man, so God answered...
He sent fire, not for a bush, but for a church.
He brought down a wall, not of bricks, but of sin.
He stilled a storm, not of the sea, but of a soul.
And God waited for the man to respond.
And He waited...
And He waited...
And He waited...
But because the man was looking at bushes, not heart;
Bricks and not lives,
seas and not souls,
he decided that God has done nothing.
Finally he looked to God and asked, "Have You lost Your power?"
And God looked at him and said, "Have you lost your hearing?"

We're approaching a special season in the Christian Calendar, one that has historical significance but has been often overlooked recently in the Evangelical church. It's called "Lent", and it's a 40 day season of preparation for Easter. I preached a message on "Understanding Lent" last year at Alive, and we've brought it back to the top of the messages online here: You can also read the message notes here: Understanding Lent. Read the reflection questions in this blog. Hopefully, Lent can help you appreciate afresh the beauty of Easter!
